So what's the secret to successfully pushing the fuel filler neck through a @#$% new grommet from the inside?

Wish I could tell you what a '69 is like, but on my '58, I remember removing the neck from inside the cab, then lubricating the neck pipe with some vaseline. That allowed me to slip the grommet on. From that point, I put the grommet/filler pipe into the thru-hole and incrementally adjust the pipe/grommet so that the grommet fit back into the hose in the cab that goes to the fuel tank.

So I've pulled out the seatbelts in addition to the seat because they were annoying me, applied dish soap to the grommet and filler neck...and STILL can't get the neck through the grommet! I'm a little perturbed.

It appears to me to be an angle of assault issue. Does anyone have any tips for twisting or turning the tank a certain way to push the neck through in my '69 C-10?
