The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Tailgate Script Decal

I will be painting my new tailgate and applying a "Chevrolet" script decal to it. Should I apply the decal between the base and clear coats or over the clear coat?

I would do the decal after the clear. Celaring over it could cause problems with the finish, especially if there's a reaction between the materials.

Just another thought, here is how I did mine;
I used a piece of tracing paper, placed over each letter and rubbed with a graphite pencil. Then I took the set of letters to a sign shop, where they measured and re drew them and printed a vinyl stencil. I placed each over the shape, sprayed paint, when dry removed the stencil, then lightly sanded the edges, then cleared. I have had many people ask me how I did them ,they turned out very factory like.

So since you already have the letters, a sign shop could convert to a stencil fairly easy, then when painted, they can never peel off.

I wish the letter suppliers would make them from a reflective material like SOLAS. My truck isn't that easy to see from behind at night. I guess I could buy the tape and make my own.
