I have a '53 Chev with an old splash lube
216. I ran across someone with a 1979 Chev
1/2 ton pickup with a straight 6 engine
coupled to a 4 sp manual tranny. I'm assuming this is a pressure lube 235. I have 3 probably difficult to answer questions:

1) How do I confirm that this is in fact a 235 in the '79?

2) What is involved in making this 235 fit in the '53?

3) Will the original tranny still work with the 235?

Thanks in advance for all responses,
Keith

A 79 would be a 250 cu. or a 292cu.in. engine . Either one will not bolt right in, without a lot of work. New motor mounts , different transmission etc.

Yes, it probably is a 250 with integral intake/head. Most opinions would be to toss that head and get a 250/292 head with separate intake. Unless you've lost all sanity and want an automatic or you want a 5spd, then use that 4spd. I don't know what model or manufacturer it is but, it is a truck tranny with granny low and it's all aluminum used in the 1/2 only. My friend had a '79 short, 1/2, 250, aluminum 4spd that he bought new. He towed a 24' trailer every summer for 20 years and as far north as Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
