The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop throttle linkage question???

I installed my fenton headers today on my 48 gmc 3/4 ton and the throttle linkage to the carb hits the header and no longer fits. The headers are stamped GMC. Is there an aftermarket linkage to go along with these headers or am I doing something wrong? :confused: I am using the stock carb.

You didn't expect a bolt on instalation now did you? :p You will probably have to go the the hardware store, get some rod, and bend it to clear the headers. Take your time, and make the hard 90's as tight as possible. You wouldn't want to have your accelerator jam in the wide open position.

If I might add to BBSDaddy's suggestion....if you can find a piece of heavy copper wire like is used to ground home electrical boxes, instead of steel rod, you will save your hands and fingers from a beating. You can bend this easily in just the right places and then use it as a pattern for bending your final steel rod.

As he pointed out...you want to get it perfect as a jammed WOT is a nightmare!!! Hope this helps.

I had to fab my own for my truck. I went to local hardware and got some steel rod and a 1/4 die and shaped how i wanted then threaded with a die and placed a coupler in the middle to have room for adjustment so far it has been good.

well I used 1/4" all thread. This allowed me to use nuts on either side of the levers. I shaved some nuts down to 1/2 thickness so it does not look so bulky. I allowed for plenty of clearance around the exhaust and intake manifold. It is not something you would want to use on a show truck but it does seem to work good.

Thats what it is all about (in my book anyway). Doesn't have to be pretty as long as it works. At least get you by until you might can fab something pretty later.

I used all-thread along with threaded ball joints on my 261 throttle linkage. It has been very smooth and reliable so far. You can't tell that it is all-thread unless you stick your head under the intake.
