I pulled the negative cable off of the battery to work on the truck engine. I had the cable off for a few hours. After reconnecting the cable the truck won't turn over. There's no electrical at all. No lights, gauges etc.
If I pull the positive cable and put it back on I can get my headlights and instrument panel to work. But then when I try to turn it over it sucks all of the juice and nothing comes on.
I tested the battery with a multimeter and it was reading 75% charged which should be enough to crank the engine. The battery is 2 months old. The cables are new. I'm not sure what's going on. I'd appreciate any input. You cant check a bat. with an open voltmeter. You need a load tester. Put a charge on it or jumpers to an other bat.

Give the battery posts a good scrubbing with a wire brush, and scrape the insides of the cable terminals with a pocketknife or scrub them with a round wire brush made specificaly for cleaning cables. It doesn't matter how "clean" the terminals appear to be. I've been solving the vast majority of "no crank" complaints with this procedure for over 50 years.
