I'm going crazy trying to install the re-pop door lock on my '49.

It looks to me, that the "stick" is 90 degrees from where it needs to be. From looking at the hole in the latch where the stick engages, I think the stick should be horizontal, compared to the key.

Does anyone know what the original orientation is? I didn't get a lock with this truck. So I have nothing to compare to.
Here's a picture of what I have:

Thanks a bunch.

You can reposition the shaft part by un clipping the clip, you can place it in four positions.Be careful not to loose the small spring and washer.I fought the same problem on my rear barn door of the suburban.I finally got it to work by rotating the shaft into a different position on the lock and clipped it into place.

Ok,I went out to look at my trucks lock, couldn't take it out because of my weather stripping.I remembered that the suburban really don't have any weather stripping and pulled it out.Flat side should be up.Use a small screw driver and pry back each prong on the clip(4) and pull the shaft and rotate it to the correct position.Remember, there is a small spring in there that will jump or fall out, should be a small washer also. Here are two pictures for you.

I hope this has helped you, good luck.

Tim, thanks! I was getting pretty dang frustrated. In fact, I had switched to installing the new window wipers and tracks for the front doors.

I was gun-shy to start prying, incase I had to return them, replete with a sternly worded letter. Now, they'll just get the letter!

Thanks again, I was beginning to think I'd locking and unlocking my truck with a screwdriver for a while.

I had purchased one of those re-pop door locks.

I had a problem trying to install the holder clip in the door. To me it looked like the housing was not made correctly, the groove the clip is supposed to slide in is not wide enough.

I ended up taking an original door lock to a lock smith and had it keyed to the ignition.

Good Luck

Boy, it was the work of a few moments to 'git'er done!

Now, I did replace my passenger door latch assembly with a re-pop I've had laying around here for 2 years. Man, is that sucker stiff! I mixed up some time-saver lapping compound with the oil I used to lubricate it, hopefully it'll wear in faster.

It would sure be nice if these darn locks came with a piece of paper explaining how to turn the stick, or maybe the dang stick could come on the right way!

Thanks again for your help. I'm latching and locking now, and that makes me happy.
