I have a '59 1/2 ton stepside, and she needs a lot of work. What I need help with at the moment though is the throttle linkage. Specifically, the rod that runs from the pedal to the pivot under the intake. Mine doesn't line up with the pedal if it's attached to the pivot, and vice-versa. I was wondering if anyone had a real clear picture of what the rod is supposed to look like? I.e., where the bends are.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The throttle linkage does not end up perfectly vertical they way it was with the 216. Now- the rod from the pedal that u are referring to does bend a little. Don't be afraid to manipilate it a little. u won't hurt it.

Is this rod that Jeff is inquiring about different between a 235 and 216? I have a spare but it has quite the curve along the thick portion whereas the one in my truck (235) is pretty straight. Also the curved on is about 3-4" longer.

Also the curved on is about 3-4" longer. It depends on the year of the 235 engine. The bell-crank pivot that is screwed into the block is in different locations, depending on the year of the 235 engine. Here is a generic universal throttle rod that can be easily bent to work as the throttle rod from the bell-crank to a carb (on a newer 235/261 engine). As posted above, the throttle rod from the pedal to the bell crank on the block has to also be adapted for the different length (by bending or by cutting/threading and putting in a coupling nut) | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 6 | DADS50:
That looks the same as my rod, but mine is bent totally different. But, mine looks like it has been re-bent several times, so it may have originally looked like yours. I will try and duplicate that and see if it functions.

Let us know how it works out. Good luck | | | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 367 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 367 | I believe the 59 rod has a ball on the end that fits in the upper hole in the foot pedal. The other end is threaded for some adjustment and attaches to the bell crank. The thicker part that is near the pedal has a bend that should keep it centered in the firewall hole as the pedal goes down.I believe that there is only one hole in the block to mount the pin for the bellcrank. The shop manual has a pretty good pict but I don't remember what page and I think Denny Graham has some shots of his engine that show the bellcrank and throtle rod with return spring. also a nice clip for the spring on the oil pan. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 28 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 28 | Shop Shark - Great Pics again on the throttle linkage. You have supplied me with all the pedal views and your video keeps me motivated.
Your not trying hard enough if you dont screw up every once in a while.
