For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 163 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 163 | I own a late '47 chevy coe and i would like to keep it as original as possible, but i am having a hard time finding an updraft carb and intake. Also i am not sure if a 235 is big enough to keep the wheels turning to stay up in todays traffic.
I have a bbc and turbo 400 if i were to upgrade. I just dont like the look of the engine behind the caband i would like to keep as much of a flatbed area as i can. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 384 | Try to find a 261 engine... it will keep up.

It's geared really slow now so more power is only a small part of the equation. Also consider brakes if you'll be hauling stuff and traveling fast.

Even a 261 (or GMC 302) would be revving quite high to get you up to 65mph. Fill in your rear-end ratio and tire diameter and let us know the RPM at 65mph. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | 65mph 35" tires SM420 transmission 1:1 in high gear 5.43:1 rear end ratio =~ 3400 RPM 6.17:1 rear end ratio =~ 3850 RPM

I need to get some cash together and i will have an engine and trans and everything i need for the '47. I figure i can customize the '52 if i get it. The '52 is rusty.

Just move the radiator in front of the core support, find an OD trans., upgrade the braking system.
'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires. '47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle. '54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed. '55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
