on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 46 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 46 | I bought a 1948 Chevy 1/2 Ton Pickup...it has a 1955 chevy engine in it.
The Kentucky title has a VIN of - FBA450934 and the engine is 1955 i think since number on it is - 0550236F255 Cowl Tag on Inner Door is: Serial # - 9FPH6586 Mfg. Date August 1948 Model 1/2 Ton Wheelbase 116 inches Plant Norwood, Ohio I live in Ohio and bought the truck from Kentucky.
How do i go about getting them to title the truck...since i do not have the matching original engine with VIN? Thanks

I live in Ohio also and had the same problem when I bought my 51. It was registerd in NY with the engine number and I wanted to title it in OH with the VIN. Had to take it to a Ohio Highway Patrol inspection facility and they put it on a lift and checked it over and then gave me a form with the VIN number on it and I was able to take it to the BMV and register it. Check with your local BMV for the nearest inspection facility. I had to wait a couple of weeks to get an appointment.
Hope this helps.

I also think they were checking for any parts that had been put on that may have been stolen. Once it came back ok they just signed off on the VIN that was on the door jamb. A friend of mine had to go through the same thing with a replica of a Cobra that he built before they assinged it a VIN.
I also found out the hard way that I could have driven the truck to the inspection station even though my 30 day tag had expired. All I had to do was call the inspection station and they would have sent me a letter saying it was ok to drive to the inspection and back--would have saved me $$ on a trailer rental.
Hope this helps.

They will have a solution for you. If you bought this on ebay, they may also have a solution with their guarantee if the time line is not past. Put your body tag number HERE Double check before you go to the DMV. There will not be a vin number stamped on the frame for this year. As stated your truck was registered with the original engine, this was common practice by many DMV'S. Your tag should be attached with either clutch head screws or philip head screws. replacement tags are available from vendors such as Jim Carter | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 46 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 46 | plugged in tag and came up with this Serial # - 9FPH6586 Mfg. "Tag of the driverside door frame just has - (FP-H 6586)" Be prepared when you go into the DMV. Explain that you want to register the truck using the body tag on the door pillar. Explain that the original engine has been removed and the new engine does not have the same numbers as the registration. Take any info you have with you. | | |
