It powers up but no sound. There are only three wires on the back of the radio,a red(power) a green and a black.I have the original single dash speaker in the truck and/ or two newer speakers(8ohm)where do the green and black wires from the radio go, tried those to the speakers but no luck. HELP! | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | I don't have any diagrams for your hookup. However, make sure that you don't leave it powered up for very long, and certainly not at a high volume, while testing. I would think that your speaker should be connected between the two wires green and black or two speakers, one between the black and ground and one between the freen and ground. You should hear a gentle thump when the power is turned on. Do the wires terminate in a quick connect? If so, remove the connector and try hooking on to the pins. | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 118 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 118 | When I initially got the radio I tried hooking it up and had the power and ground hooked up wrong and saw a little smoke and quickly disconnected. Since then I've hooked it up again and the radio still lights up, you think I killed it??? | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | I think that smoke is required to stay in the unit. Don't sound too promising to me. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | Smoke coming out is not a good thing. If you can't get it to work than maybe it needs to be repaired. If it is only AM/ mono FM, you may be able to get it converted to a modern AM/FM stereo with an MP3 input. | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 171 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 171 | Your green and black go to the speaker ,you should be able to find it labled on the case or on the black plastic plug ,you may have to pull the cover and look in side. Sounds like you may have shorted your output transistor and your fuse resistor burned up. | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 118 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 118 | Thanks Bill, costly screw up.Now I gotta find someone to fix it.I'm picking up an original am tomorrow and will hook that up,if it works then I'm in trouble | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 118 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 118 | Ok, the radio lives....got it working but one fairly simple last question. Previous owner put two speakers in there on each kick panel (8 ohm). Can I run both speakers off the old am/fm? Or should I just use the old single speaker still up under the dash. THANKS! | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 171 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 171 | Yes you can run both speakers, connect them in parallel, a fader can also be used. | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 118 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 118 | Ok, tested it on the floor of the truck and all was good. Mounted it in the dash and now it blows the in line fuse, gotta check and see if the back of the radio is touching some other wires causing a short. What size fuse should I be running? It currently haas a t2/250d. Almost there...... | | |
