For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 | I thought that I had done everything correctlly in moving my Oil Filter Canister but, obviously, I have not. No matter how tightly I torque it (within reason that is), it still leaks. I have been using the old rubber gasket because it was wider, thicker and just looked to be better than the one that came with the filter. I also put a rubber washer between the bolt head and the lid instead of the old neoprene/plastic that appeared to be worn out (could that be the problem?) The lid looks good and I can't see any dings or flaws where it touches the top rim of the canister. The only things that I haven't tried yet is to put the new thinner rubber gasket inside the lid lip and also use the neoprene washer between the bolt and top of the lid. Does anyone have any magic tricks to help me here or do I just keep tightening and trying things. My shop floor is getting more slippery everytime I crank it up.
Footnote: I am also putting the conical spring wide end down against the filter.

If I don't figure this out then I guess hose replacement is my next option.

Is it leaking from the lid gasket or the bolt gasket? That should be quite apparent. Even if the outlet was blocked, the can should hold pressure and not leak. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | Did it leak before you moved it to the inner fender? For the seal under the bolt I used a fiber washer dorman 65280 , you should be able to pick them up at your FLAPS ...link... There's no way I could have gotten them mixed up because the bottom is female at the end of the hose and the top is male where it goes into the fitting.
I put the neoprene gasket back on the bolt and tightened it extra tight and now I'll go try it again and see if I can tell exactly where it's coming from.
Thanks Y'all - - bear with me ok?

OP is good and after adding more oil it even stopped that tapping noise - ;-)
Dads50, it did not leak before I moved it - - - altho I'm not sure, I think it was that rubber washer that I had replaced the plastic one with - - - - definitely gotta get me some of those you mentioned. At close to $5 a quart, I can't affordd to use that oil on the shop floor. BTW, does FLAPS = ?Friendly Local Auto Parts Store?
Thanks Gents, OUP
