Went out this morning, got my trusty old truck, turned the switch on, pushed the foot pedal in the floor for the starter..... it grunted and that was it.

Battery is new, but the starter has been giving warning signs it was quitting.

So pulled the starter, yep, needs rebuilding.

Put in new brushes, bushings and a starter drive. Put it back on, hit the stomp pedal again and it whirled to life.

I had to drive 50 miles one way to a rebuilder to find a starter drive. Got the last one he had like mine and he said he wasn't going to order any more. Hope this bendix makes it another 50 years. Some one else can worry with it then.

Roy, if the supply in your area dries up, let me know. There are still at least two oldtime electrical rebuilders in my area, and I can probably help with parts.

This one made it this long. Maybe the new one will last a while too. Sure whirls over much better.

I had never paid attention to the fact that the starter drive in the stomp starter is longer than the ordinary gm starter drive.

That's all the local folks could come up with. I knew about this rebuilder up the road, called and they said they had it. Cost a whole ten dollars for the part.

The expensive part was the wife went with me and wanted to eat at Chilis, plus the gas to get there and back.

Oh well. It was a good time for her anyways.

Yep, the $65.00 core transmission I just bought to rebuild and equip my wife's mini-motorhome with overdrive cost me $125.00 worth of gas for the round trip to pick it up!
