Finally have my '46 two ton on the road and got the hang of double-clutch upshifting, BUT the downshifting is killing me! No matter what I try, I can't seem to downshift. Should I double clutch to downshift too? Any tips or hints would be great. Thanks, guys.

| | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 | Yes, double clutch going down. You need to clutch, take out of gear, rev. engine to match higher rpm of lower gear, clutch and put in gear. Not sure about the 2 speed rear ends, if you have one.
It's all about matching the engine speed. So listen carefully at the shift points as well as watching the speed at those points. It's also possible to shift without using the clutch. That's when you really know your truck. i grew up on old foden, trucks in the uk.
old low revving ,,sloggin,, gardner engine,s with fodens own 12 speed DP box,s
they were 4 on the stick with three seperate range,s
the early one,s had the range,s on another gear stick that meant you had 2 sticks to work together
now that was driving ,,,
