The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Carter W-1 Carbs

I have looking for a carb kit for a carter w-1 and have some new ones for $50+ but have found orginal ones on ebay for $20. Will this kits still work and if so is then anything I need to do the kit specially the gasket before i use it?

I'm not a carb. expert but have had some experience with ebay carb kits. Some of the so called kits are only gaskets with no pumps or new needle valves and the gaskets have been around so long that they are brittle. What ever kit you get I think it a good practice to fill the bowel of the carb with fresh gas and let the gaskets soak for a few mins after reassembly and resnug bolts and screws after it has ran a little.

When ordering you might be very spesific with them ,call and actually talk to some one.I bought a kit from Jim carter ,which for the most part is o.k.But my w-1 carb kit was suppose to be complete.So i never checked it out till i went to do the rebuild and had the carb tore down.Lo and behold the excelerator pump was not even close and some of the needle valves were missing.For now I put in what would fit and replaced the original part back.Good luck and ask a few questions before purchasing a kit.Chad
