So the time has come at last to pull the motor. I was wondering though is there tips or tricks to making this easir on myself. Its a 41 chevy 3/4 ton pickup. My main concern is the clearance between the tranny and underside of cab.

Delux, I assume you have pulled all the sheet metal off the front. Hood, fenders, inner fenders, front baffles etc. It is easier if you pull the trans first, then you can lift the engine out without problems. Those little 3spds are not heavy and easy to pull. You'll need to disconnect the torque tube first then get yourself a couple of 4" long 1/2" bolts. Cut the heads off the bolts and slot the ends for a screwdriver. Then pull the top bolts on the trans and insert the 4" bolts in their place. With that done, remove the lower trans bolts and you can slide the trans back on the upper bolts and just lift it out through the cab. It only weighs about 40 lbs.

With the trans out you can lift the engine almost straight up and out.
