I guess that's why I only have 2 lockwashers. Also, two of the bolts were worn badly just below the head, not sure if they were top or bottom. photo of one worn, one not

| | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 53 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 53 | I would replace the originals, they should still be available, and the bolts also, I know that a similar locking tab like that is used on exhaust bolts on the chevy 454s, I dont know if they are the same size as that one.
also I am not fimialar with the stuff you took that off of, so no help there. you might be able to find some at one of the chevy or gm dealership that would work, just take that one for a size comparison, good luck Mike B | | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 53 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 53 | By the way there should have been two of them if there are only four bolts, three if there are six bolts.....
Mike B | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,767 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,767 | Unless you're interested in doing a 100% correct restoration, just eliminate that piece and substitute lock washers, or use a drop of blue LocTite to retain the bolts. If you opt for the LocTite, clean the bolts and the female threads thoroughly with spray brake cleaner or some other type of volatile solvent to be sure there's no oil on the threads. I'd use threadlocker if it was my project.
