Right now I have a 4 speed torque tube trans. I was given a two piece drive shaft with a carrier bearing. I would like to change the rear of my 4 speed trans to except the open drive. I have a choice, either change the trans to a T5 S10 trans or stay with the original 4 speed. I'm trying to get the S10 trans rebuilt but I think I wouldn't mind staying with the original 4 speed if I can get the drive to work. Can anybody help with pictures or info ? thanks in advance | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 106 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 106 | If the truck still has the torque tube rear end, it would have to be replaced to have an open drive line. Is the truck a 1/2 ton? I would go for a one piece drive shaft, if possible, and avoid the issues of a carrier bearing.

My 54 1/2 ton has an opend drive line with a 235 and 1955 three speed o/d trans and 1965 1/2 ton rear end. If you like we could meet half way and you could take photos.

The reason for the two piece with the carrier is the rear axle goes higher then the cab. I had a accuair system installed. thanks Is the 3 speed O/D the same as the 4 on the floor I have? I'm at the 91 and the 15. | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 106 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 106 | Sounds like you C notched the frame to lower the rear end? I am not sure about that set up with a Nissan rear. You could call Tom at Foreign and Chevy Truck Salvage in Santa Ana who knows everything about trans and rear ends in old Chevy trucks. The 1955 Chevy 3 speed o/d trans bolts up to the bell housing and has the open drive splined shaft at the rear of the trans. I am going to Pomona Swap Meet on Sunday and could take the truck if you want to see it there.
