It has the look of a 216... two acorn nuts on ribbed valve cover..... under the carb. it has the external oil distribution cover of the 216..... on the dizzy side the lifter cover is short... doesn't cover all the way to the plugs...oil pan has raised pad on dizzy side.... too filthy to see if it has a stamped number...
Block number on pad behind the dizzy says..
Y 24340
Casting numbers will need to be scratched clean to read....
Is it an early...53 splash/babbit 235...?

Wait to hear from a Canadian regarding the block number.
Regarding the valve cover and side cover, Canadians have reported that some years of 216s did not have the tall side cover.
In USA, all 216s had tall side covers, as did 41-49 235s.

I will be scraping some gunk off the block looking for casting numbers this weekend.... and will remove the top valve cover to look for head numbers inside.
That suffix "Y" in the block serial number has me puzzled.?
Will try David Hayward in the UK for Canadian info.
