Hello all , just pulled my 3 speed gearbox out of my 51 Burb , only to find that the clutch mainshaft is different than the one i have rebuilt ready to fit !! My original has the clutch spines the whole length of the shaft , however my rebuilt unit has a shorter length of splines , Other than that is looks exactly tyhe same any ideas ?? will it cause me any issues if i fit it ?? any sugestions appreciated

I think the one with less length to the splines came from a Task Force series trucks. I don't see any problem with using it.

Many thanks for you advice , i have been wondering why the different length of splined shaft? , and for what reason? i now feel happier to fit it

My understanding is that clutch gears with shorter splines are OEM and the ones with the full splines were aftermarket. In which case the aftermarket parts would be presumably stronger. I don't have any evidence to support this claim however.
