I need to buy a pair and am wondering who makes the best one.
I'm looking at LMC, Classicparts, goodmark, etc. I can't find any good originals. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Pete, chime in here, this ones right up our alley.
I'd stay away from the glass fenders, been lots of trouble with them depending on where you get them. A lot of guys are making them because the mold is easy to make and you can knock them out in your garage. I wouldn't think that there are to many people who have the ability to make the dies and stamp out reproduction steel fenders, so no matter which vendor you get them from, they're probably comming from the same manufacturer.

They were well made but the holes to bolt to the running boards were not drilled so it took awhile to get both fenders in the same place before drilling the holes. They were made off shore.
Keep the 216's running. 1949 1/2 ton model #1314 (US 3104) Brian

Chev's of '40's sells them and Bob Adler Restorations in Stephentown NY is also a dealer of them.(See his ad in Hemmings). I've seen them and while the gauge of steel is thinner than the originals they look and fit pretty good. There is always some need to tweak the fit of repop fenders to fit your truck. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 1,388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 1,388 | So, I have to ask, why do the fibreglass fenders not fit right? Are the holds not accurate?
I'm just curious. Doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to make tim the same outer dimension as the originals. Are they thicker? Or is there an issue with the 'glass post-curing, and pulling the shape off?
As you might guess, I've never seen a fibreglass fender in real life. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Depending on whos making them they can warp to the point that it's dang near impossible to get them to fit. There sure isn't anything wrong with them if they are done properly but that's the catch, you just don't know who's doing the batch. DG
