For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 105 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 105 | I'm confused about what front motor mounts to use on a V8 in my 55 2nd 6100. The ones that are sold by the vendors and listed as V8 are these 2 1/2" between washers. The 55 shop manual shows these 1" between washersfor a V8 and the 2 1/2" between washersfor a 6 cylinder. I have the taller ones in my truck herebut I have a firewall clearance problem with my valve covers. I tried the short mounts and they solve the valve cover problem but they don't line up with the motor brackets (no photo sorry). I'm thinking of modifying the brackets to 1 3/8" between washers. That would solve the valve cover problem and I think they will line up properly . Has anyone ever run into this before? what's the V8 you're trying to install? do you have the correct engine brackets? are they in the right place?
the mounts from the vendors are correct and work fine in any 56-58 I've put them in with 283's and 350's, there will be a problem with clearance for an HEI, but the stock valve covers shouldn't be touching

My motor is a 350 with roller rockers and rocker girdles. I should be able to make some modification and make it work with the correct front mounts. I have a small HEI dist. that will work. What application are the short motor mounts used for? Just curious. Thanks again. SEE YA!
