The shop manual pages 12-38/39 are not much help and the Truck Assembly Manual sec.12 sheet 1.04 is not detailed enough... Does any one have some good pics on how these go together ? Mine were taken apart 20 years ago... Here are the Parts that I have, I have the headlights too... According to the Shpo Manual Pic looks like I am missing one Headlamp Adjusting Screw and one spring ( " E " ) in the pic... I do not ever remember having two springs nor can find them... I looked at my lamp housing and it does not look like there is a place for another spring... According to CPA there are no Headlamp Adjusting Nuts for truck years 1947-1957 so I am having trouble understanding how they fit in... Pics would be great... Thanks in advance...

This is what Classic Parts said about not having Headlamp Adjusting Nuts for 1947-1957 see their Detailed Description ... DADS50 my coil spring is intact with no missing coils... Pic was taken straight on so it is a little hard to see...

On my '52 Chevy 3100, each headlight has two screws AND two nuts. The nuts would be easy to replicate with aluminum stock of equal thickness, cut to shape, drilled and tapped. and there's a good reason plastic was used, aluminum nuts with steel screws and steel stanchions would be a recipe for future corrosion problems
healingbear - your single spring is correct and your buckets are as they should be, just need those adjuster nuts

It is unusual for the 1954 Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual to be incorrect in listing Two Springs ( E ) Sec. 12 Page 38 Fig. 56 in their description...

Well, I must disagree on two points: 1. The original nuts on my 52 are not plastic and not ferrous metal. 2. Aluminum with steel fasteners is a common occurrence on modern vehicles without problems associated with dissimilar metals.
I do agree that I stated the incorrect supplier had the information wrong in the catalog. | | |
