on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 426 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 426 | Ok folks....I realize that this has been gone over a million times, but here goes my turn. 63 Chevy truck, 12 volt system. Brand new wiring throughout whole truck, new fuel tank sending unit, guage just rebult by bowtie bits. Have good power and grounds...have plenty of fuel (1st thing I checked) and guage will only read 1/4 full. Everything is for 0-30 ohms. Help please. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 239 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 239 | Since you've elimnated all the other things... Is the sending unit float hitting the side of the gas tank?

Its been in the tank 3 mo, the guage just got in Monday, so I was thinking that it mighta gummed up some. Might also help tell me if working proper. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | Pull gauge and sending unit OUT! Set them up with test wires, including a test ground wire directly to battery terminal, and make them read properly before you do anything else!!!! Maybe you have a 1/4 tank of gas? Anyway work the sender up and down during test to see the gauge work. Don't use ANY of the truck wiring for this. If it all works fine, then you know its Ground or supply. Check ground: Battery to engine, engine to body, body to chassis, chassis to sender ground. Then Check supply circuit all the way to gauge and to sender. (including ignition switch malfunction)
If test does not work, it's the "new" sender or "rebuilt" gauge.
I assume you have checked to see that there is hot to gauge and hot to sender, already, with a test light. and I assume it goes to empty when ignition shut off.
