Hello there! I'm very happy with my recent purchase. Unmolested and rust is not bad. 88K on the odometer, but not currently running. I'm the 3rd owner. Last one had her since 1969. I'm planning a restomod, but if the original motor runs, then I may go original, but lower her a bit. cool

VIN: C1445B138459
Paint code: 538AA (but I don't know what the AA means) 538 means color #12409 = Dark Blue.

I'm having a little trouble posting pics, but I'll get it figured out soon. grin

I have an inline 6 and 3 on the column. I don't know what size motor I have. Where on the block will I find that info? Is there another way to tell?

**EDIT**
OK, I just found the stamp on the motor.
F0707TA = 230ci inline 6 (for a 1965)

Next question: Is the 230ci inline 6 gonna be a good motor? We shall see! What do y'all think? Sounds like many folks install a 305ci V8.
I'm ready for some opinions.

there should be a little flat "pad" to the left of the distributor with some numbers on it. If you will get those and post them here in the engine forum someone can tell you.

you may have to wipe off the grease and grime to see it!

I just edited my prior post with the info from the block. Thanks for the help. If I can't get the 230ci to run, what motor might be a good swap?

A V8, 283 would be period correct. A guy in Greenville has one if you would like to chat with him. I've bugged him about it but he hasn't give me a price yet. It will need a rebuild.

REbuild the one you have or you could go about anyway you want to. A 250 inline6, something bigger like a 261 inline or as mentioned some small block chevy would fit right in.

I wouldn't count out that 230. They're tougher than you think. With the price of gas now days you may find yourself driving it more and enjoying it a lot. Larryw

Hello, I just joined as well. your project looks alot like mine (65 SWB). Today I got my new crome rear bumper, now if i could just figure out where it was supposed to bolt up to the frame... there doesnt seem to be any stock holes etc in the frame. Do your brackets just bolt to the inside of the frame rails behind the where the leafspring perches are? lol anyway nice project.

I will take some photos and shows you how things bolt up. Do you have a Factory Service Manual? If not, you will need the 1963 Chevrolet Truck Manual and the 1965 Chevrolet Truck Manual Supplement.

I see you live in Washington State. Too bad we're not closer! LOL!

Im still running the original 230 in my 63 stepside. Never been rebuilt, no leaks and no major engine work have ever been performed. Just fuel, oil and usual maintenance. The old inline six was built to last forever. Granted, it all depends on what direction you are going to go with the truck and how you plan on using it.

The hood ornament was put on by a prior owner and is NOT OEM and was not put on properly. I plan to remove it.
