Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment (and references) for you!

For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 40 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 40 | I noticed today the the front axle is badly bent upwards on the passenger side of my 49 3800 one ton truck. My truck is now a flatbed , but it came from the factory with a 9ft pickup bed, so it is NOT a dually. I know that there are axle shops that can straighten this out at a big expense, but I'm wondering if a 3/4 ton axle would be the same. Instead of fixing mine, I would rather just swap it out. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | There are a couple of 1 Ton axles on Ebay right now. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 56 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 56 | I'm thinking a machine shop should be able to press it straight again. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 171 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 171 | shops working on big truck front ends could straighten it. I believe the 3/4 ton axle is the same. the brakes are larger on the 1 ton | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 40 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 40 | There is a shop here locally that straightens 18 wheeler axles that I could try. I think I am still going to try and find a 1953 or so 3800 axle to get the better brakes off of. | | |
