The front pan that sits at the bottom of the rad and attaches to the bottom front valance has 2 bolt holes that do not make any sense to me. They are on each side of the pan and are a threaded hole directed towards the wheel wells. I cannot for the life of me figure out what or why anything would be boltsed in this area. Please help. | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 | It's not for a diagonal brace from the pan/inner fender to the valance? Neither of my trucks has an extra threaded hole, actually it looks like all the holes are just bolted through. | | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 210 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2008 Posts: 210 | All the holes along the edge are just through holes that bolt to the front side skirts and front valance. Towards the back there is the large hole for the crank bar and on nearly the same plane off to each side are 2 threaded bold holes directed towards the wheel wells. | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 | I think you are describing the hole for the diagonal rod brace. The topside is a welded square nut to a 1/2x2" strip of metal indented into the pan. On the bottom a 8-10" rod with flattened, drilled ends is attached. The rod leads to the bottom valance and fender. There is a metal stiffener bar there where all the panels and the rod meets. If that's not it, I'm clueless too. | | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 210 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2008 Posts: 210 | Ya that could be it. So there is some sort of brace that bolts on inside the fender? Is this to prevent the fender from flapping in the wind? I put fiberglass fenders on so maybe I do not need this brace? | | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 210 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2008 Posts: 210 | Do you happen to have pictures of this? | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 581 | You'll notice a little L-shaped bracket that resides on the inner lip of the valance. Everything attaches to that. Yes, it strengthens the lower fender and valance. If your fender is flapping, there are actual fender supports that mount the outer fender by the wheel opening to the inner fender. Do not have anything of the brackets bolted on to with the surround but look close and you can see the rusted outline of one on the drivers side. Hope it helps. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dodsonbrett/sets/72157627608401951/Cavebull | | | | Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 98 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 98 | Did the 41 have these brackets? My pan doesn't have these two holes. | | |
