Hi..I'm the new bolter...and just aquired the 6 suburban that was on Ebay yesterday...excited aobut starting this long project. How much wood is really in this suburban's main body..especially the rear where those doors are ? I don't have it in the flesh yet..but will in tow weeks. Then the fun begins. Body is rough but will all work out with patience. It;s the wood pieces that scare me a bit. thanks for any help...Bruce D.

You were quick to find the 'bolt! Nice score! thumbs_up The wood should not be too bad to make, most of it is looks to be in decent condition and at least good enough for patterns. You may want to consider using tube steel when replacing the wood. It will hold up better, last longer and will not be seen. If you insist on using wood, find someone that does the wood for Model A's or woody wagons. It won't be cheap, but it should be doable.

Contact Ron Brazell he once owned this one! .

Fantastic news! I was hoping a fellow member would grab it! To answer your question here are the 36 paint codes.

Tim Lederman (Tclederman) is also really good at hunting down paint codes / colors

There is A LOT of wood in the body. I helped a few guys out with patterns for the rear clam shell door a few years back with photos / dimensions from my '36 suburban.

If you need any running gear / suspension parts - I just sold mine to a street rodder who had no interest in axles, springs, steering column, engine, transmission, pedal assembly, etc.

I have a good running 206 as well if you want to keep it stock.

My burb is headed to Pensacola Florida - will probably pass yours on the freeway somewhere.

I have good shipping connections and could get you all these parts to Idaho pretty easily.

Ken thank you so much. I don't have it yet..so I don't what is needed. I know that it has been sored in the guy's two garages fo 46 years! I can only guess that it needs everything you mentioned..so PLEASE keep me in mind. My cell# is 208 610 4501.
I have a real good boat builder woodworker pal..but have no idea what will be needed. One of the bolters wrote that tube steel might be a better answer than the wood..(where it isn't seen.) Any thoughts? All seats are there thank God. Engine wise..will nkow in two weks..cross your fingers! ha! Thanks agian for your advice...Bruce D. Sandpoint Id.

I passed your question on to a similar 'burb owner in Detroit and he wanted to make sure I introduced you to the name of David Entler of PA. His work is very highly thought of and he has done complete wood packages for both Suburbans and Panels. David sent me some very impressive photos of his work as I was looking for a package for my '36 one and one-half ton. If you PM me, I can provide you with more contact information and copies of his photos.

I am pretty sure it was David Entler that I sent dimensions / photos to to complete the rear gate kit he was making for a '36 suburban - I believe that the kit cost upwards of $5k.

A 36 would have 100 percent steel doors. Cowl and door surrounding frames are wood framed similar to a 35.

Interesting progression of information. If I remember right, Ken's suburban came from Idaho and now resides in Florida and the wood may come back to Idaho in another project! Lot's of collaboration on putting these projects back together too! shake

Hi Leonard - sounds like you have married well - my wife has been supportive of my habit for rust, but she has had enough of projects that don't make progress. After seeing what an ordeal that Old Sub's wife went through when he died this last winter, I decided it was time to start selling.

I hope you have a good way to get the skid off of your trailer - it was a challenge for me to load at my home.

I was told recently that if 36 wood is in decent shape I could mix an epoxy res then thin it slightly and paint each wood part making it solid and hard as new..(pieces not seen of course) Window frames look good so hope the rest of it is not rotted.

Bruce - do some searching and reading on "wood epoxy saturation technique" [WEST system], it's a common wooden boat preservation/repair method, might find a shop in your area that can supply the right materials
