I am building a 1951 Half ton and the fenders I picked up have little round markers (or did at one time) lights underneath the headlights. Do I have 1951 fenders or are they later or were markers an option?

That sounds like someone tacked on markers. Side markers were not required on vehicles until 1968.

welcome to the garage Rusty ... below the headlights [ie: on the front] would not be 'markers', markers are on the roof or as Dave points out, later side markers .... most likely you're seeing someones add on turn signals or replacements for rotten parking lights, lots of things are done to old trucks over the years to keep them workin

GMC has parking lights on the fenders under the headlights...
If your truck is not a GMC it may at least have the fenders?

Rusty, you have GMC fenders. The only difference between the Chevy and GMC fenders is GMC fenders had the park light under the headlight while the Chevy park lights were located in the grill. Fill those holes in and no one will be the wiser.

GMC fenders....now THAT makes sense. Rusty has been pieced together from dozens of trucks. I also have a GMC flat bed. I knew that those little lights were factory, just not the factory I thought. And I am missing the real, rectangular lights from the grill. So, I'm gonna run headlights and my little round markers....er...uh...turn signals. Thanks!!!

I think it is entirely possible that I may have a GMC hood as well... How can I tell the difference?

and a 53 chevrolet from a show in Castle Rock, Colorado.
And there more differences in the fenders, the park lights and the mounting bolt holes. They will still work but you will have to ream out a couple of holes.

If those lights were not required until the late '60's and came on the
GMC's, then why does my Granddads '55 Chevy 6400 have those little round lights under the headlights, but the fenders are original to the the truck?

the "little round lights under the headlights" of grandads 55 are called parking lights, it was the side marker lights that came about in '68

The '51 is a different series (Advance Design) than your truck. It had the lights in the grille. They were moved to the fender on your series truck (Task Force).
