What is the easiest way to remove the temp gauge from the dash on a '54 3100? I'm certain I have to remove the speedo but I still don't think I gonna be able to get to the gauge.

Not sure why you have to remove the speedo but the entire gauge cluster will need to be removed and disassembled to remove the temp gauge. If it is still functional you need to feed the probe and line back into the cab and remove it intact along with the gauge cluster. The trim ring on the cluster is crimped on the edge and that is what holds the cluster parts together. You have to un-crimp it around the cluster circumference and then the trim and glass can be removed. You have to open up the cluster this way because the temp gauge will have to come out thru the front. Everything goes back in the reverse order.

This is not necessarily easy but the only way I know of to replace the gauge.

Thanks Hook. I figured the only way I'd have room for my hands and tools under/up there would be to get the speedo out of the way. I'm a chubby, okay fat, older guy and getting in there is tough for me. Thanks again for your reply.

It is not an easy place to work under there. What helped me was removing the shifter (4 speed) and unbolting the clutch and brake pedals so you can push them all the way to the floor. Then you can lay across the floor and get your head up in there. Having a good light under the dash is also very helpful.

I'm fixin to pull the floor shifter. take out the seat and maybe move the brake pedal. It will still be tough, but, grrrrrrrrrrrrr, I'm tougher. Hope to have it in by spring.
