Question for you ole Stovebolters. Will a 283 V8 drop into a 58/59 Apache without too much work?

the TF series trucks were originally available with either the 235 or the 283, all you have to do is get the repro engine mounts from any vendor, the repro V8 throttle linkage, fab up a fan shroud and you're on the road grin

You'll need the bellhousing, too.

JDMedic,

Wishing I had your 235.
A 283 sounds too cool!
Good luck and keep us posted with your transition.

Jerry

Im dropping a 283 in a original 235 truck(1959). Does anyone hav any pics of how the tranny is suppose to mount to cross member? Any help with getting tranny/bellhousing would be appreciated. What do I need to buy/swap? Thanks!

The trans mounts to the bellhousing on a V-8 conversion the same way it mounts on a 6 cylinder. The trans does not mount to the crossmember like on later vehicles. You will need a V-8 bellhousing from a 55-59/63-67 truck. You can also use the bellhousing from a 63-67 6 cylinder truck. If you send me an email @ [email protected] I can send you a spreadsheet listing all the components required for a 235 to V-8 conversion. Fred

Hi,
After a couple years of dealing with the frame, cab and suspension. I'm finally coming around to dealing with the engine.

A buddy of mine gave me a 1957 265 v8 with a Saginaw 3 speed attached. After running the numbers it came out of a corvette, but would I be able to use this car bell housing in the truck or will I have to get a truck bell housing specifically?

BTW it does have the side mounts.

Thanks!

The car used mounts on the side of the bell housing that connected to frame horns. The truck bell housing mounts directly to the cross member. They are not interchangeable.

The 265 has the holes in the front of the engine so the stock front mounts for truck will work. Just get one of the truck bell housings from 55-59 or 63-67 truck and go for it. It should work and look orginal.Larry
