Removed the pump and found all kinds of mud and sediment in the bowl. I checked the supply from tank, and it looks good - clean gas runs out. Put a new pump in and everything seems fine. Been having hard time starting, now I know why. Thank goodness for the filter screen in the pump! Do you clean out your fuel pump every so often?

If you're getting trash in the bowl it's coming from the tank. Short of pulling and cleaning the tank I would at least put an in-line filter between the tank and pump. It's cheaper to replace the filter than the pump. To answer your question, I've never had to clean the sediment bowl on my pump.

You are asking for trouble. As you put modern gas in more crap is going to come through. Take the tank out and get it cleaned. Tiny can give you some pics of what happens with bad gas.
