My name is Trevor. Im a Assistant Manager at a Auto Body shop. I have been into old cars and trucks for several years now.
I just bought a Stock running and driving 51 Chev Fleetline. I'm converting it over to 12 volts. The wires in the car are all cracked. This may be a good place to get some questions answered about that and more!

Trevor | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 68 | welcome man, and nice choice on auto. my wife has a 50 fleetline. you will definitely like the 12volt conversion better. replace all the wires that are exposed of course, but the ones that are still insulated you can use w/ 12 volt. 6v systems carry more amperage, so the wires will accept the 12v setup. also, be aware of the small things electrical like gas gauge. your gauges will be 6v, so you will need a voltage reducer so they will work on a 12v system. or you can replace that stuff too. good luck man. there are alot of knowledgeable folks here that can help you out. -DVZ | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,215 Moderator | | Moderator Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 4,215 | Welcome Trevor, I also converted to 12 volts, one of the only changes I made on my truck.
