How can i tell if the correct oil dipstick is in my 50 model chevy
it looks like there is a quarter inch or less gap between the stick seating and the top of the tube that it goes into, the stick remains exposed about quarter inch, the handle appears to have been resoldered onto the stick, is there a length spec somewhere of this dipstick so i can get replacment on 216, i also wonder if maybe a grommet or seal is supposed to be there to fill the gap
thanks
Ken

The tube sticks out of block 6".
The OA length of the dipstick from the stop washer to the bottom end is 15 3/32".
The FULL mark is 13 3/8" from the stop washer.
The ADD mark is 13 7/8" from the stop washer.
Don't know if there is supposed to be a felt/leather/fiber washer under the stop washer, mine has none.

Same question for a 1954 235. How far is it from the cap/retainer to the full mark. How far from the full mark to the fill mark?

My truck came sans dipstick.

The stock pan holds 5 quarts. Just put 4 in, then you have your quart low mark, and put in another, and you have your full mark.
