Finally started to drive my 54 chevy truck and found oil spots On the tail gate and on the front of my buddy's 47. Who was following me to a show. Any suggestions on what would cause oil from the exhaust pipe. Unburned!

I'd look underneath the truck for signs of oil. When driving oil leaking can end up on the rear of a vehicle and for sure end up on a vehicle following. You might look at the rear main area, oil line connections, valve cover gasket and side cover gasket. It might help to take the truck for a good ride and get things warmed up good. Then park and start looking for oil leaks.

I do have some slight oil leaks but the oil is inside the pipe so I'm thinking some thing internal. Not sure where to start looking. Valves, head gasket, oil pump pressure?

How many miles do you have on the engine since it was built? It's not uncommon to have some oil consumption during break-in, but yours sounds like it's a little excessive. Bad exhaust valve guides and/or valve stem seals will allow oil to get into the exhaust without being burned in the combustion chamber, also.

I think I am also tending to believe it is an exhaust valve issue. but time will tell. Next opportunity I have, I will check spark plugs to see if they are fouled then pull the cover and check the seals with compressed air. Just having too much fun driving it right now.
