Hello - my new project is arriving from Nevada in a few weeks and I'm excited.

Wanted to know how to tell the model name/# and dimensions of the vehicle as well as how to find pictures/diagrams of the fuel-linkage system. The choke cable has come disconnected and I'm wondering where the cable attaches to the linkage - any photos/help would be greatly appreciate, thanks!

The choke cable should go down through a small vertical hole in the choke linkage, then a cable stop should be installed on the cable. That way, when you pull out on the choke knob - the cable pulls up on the linkage.

I got mixed up - for some reason I had the throttle cable in my head. The choke cable goes horizontally from the engine side of the carburetor to the choke arm. I found some decent pics in a thread on another site. Keep in mind that these are pics from a chevy truck, but I think the GMC bracket and linkage is the same. Post #3 shows the throttle/choke bracket on the carb. with the choke cable running horizontal. The vertical part of the bracket is for the throttle cable. Post #6 shows a picture of how the other end of the choke cable runs through the choke linkage - they have crimped the wire, but you should really use a cable stop.

The throttle cable installs in a similar manner, with the throttle wire running down vertically through the throttle linkage. It should also have a cable stop installed. Again, sorry for the mix-up.

Here's an update to my dilemma - just got the truck delivered and took photos of the actual carb/linkage I have - note one of the photos shows the choke cable dangling to the side - not sure where it goes... thanks!

Carb and Linkage

You are going to need to find a dual bracket for the cables like the one in post # 3 of the thread from another site mentioned in my last response. The throttle cable will go down through the vertical part of the bracket and the wire will go through the throttle linkage where the cotter pin/cotter key is currently on yours, then a cable stop/wire goes below the linkage. When you push the throttle pedal down, this linkage goes up, and slides up the wire. With the wire stop below the linkage, you can pull out on the throttle knob on the dash, and the linkage will lift without pressing the pedal. It is useful when operating a PTO unit, warming the engine without needing to hold the pedal down, and in instances when you are stopped on a hill with one foot on the clutch pedal and the other on the brake. Some people use it as a makeshift cruise control, but this is not recommended.

Thanks 54 - appreciate it. Will connect the throttle advance cable the way you indicate / that's the one that's dangling (thought it was the choke cable)... anyway, appreciate the specificity in your response - that helps quie a bit!
