Picked up this former ambulance (as the story goes) out in IN and brought it home on a UHaul car-hauler that was (as the KurbSide's former owner put it), "...almost enough trailer".

I had been eyeing one down the street from me for 10+ years but the owner turned out to be some sort of crazy hermit so negotiations on that broke down rather fast...

Then this listing just popped into my browser and I called the wife (who was hiking in TN) and got the go ahead to move on it. That evening I made the 2.5 hour drive with a friend of mine and laid on the down payment, shooing away any other would be takers.

I had originally planed a re-powering and may still do so in future but on inspection of the 235 and it's apparent dead simple layout and all the space around it I'm going to give it a go.

Right now I am in the process of stripping white and grey/black/red paint off of the entirely aluminum body which will get a brushed or polished finish (haven't decided) overall with highly polished & engine turned grille and trim.

It is now being cleaned and is serving as storage to help with a home remodel but it's destiny is as an RV/hotel replacement for long haul trips and as something to tow with if the need arises.

The title just cleared so its sinking in that I finally nabbed one.

Added some pics to the album. Shots of the haul home and of the current stripping progress and a little mucking about with the engine, and I do mean muck....

Interesting thing is the the carb seems to be mounted under the intake for space concerns.

It's hard to get a good pick of that till I get under it and there is too much paint and thinner all over the ground for me to want to do that just yet.

Thanks. You folks looked like you had it together. As a totally green vehicle restoration newbie I can use all the resources and knowledge I can get. Learning everything about this along the way was a big part of my motivation for doing it. I can tell I'm going to have to become better at a few things I do "know" as well. I do almost all my own modern vehicle maintinace but am by no means profesional... just untrusting grin

There are some insurance companies that will insure older vehicles like yours, and there are others that won't. Shop around. You'll find them. I use Liberty Mutual, but they're not the only ones that will insure antiques.

Admiral B - your link did not work for me. I am anxious to see the truck.

Both should check in with Victor (VEW) of VA. I believe he will be a good resource. Maybe we can get him off his porch.
