i was looking for a 58-59 short step with a more practical motor/transmission upgrade for daily driving.
any ideas what a fair value for the truck would be?

It is impossible to put a fair value on a truck from a written description. There are several on-line price guides that give estimates but I doubt you'll get what they estimate. Depends on area sold. Don't know about NY. I think a non rusty one is way more rare in NY. Also tri-fives are more popular here. Most who are going to spend allot on restoration prefer a shortbed not a longbed. Better return, more buyers. But if they like longbeds, then they build a longbed. It's like you don't waste your money restoring a 4 door 56 chevy. Unless it was in the family or some other nostalgic reason.

antisapation of an engine swap, try to keep the whole
thing togather and list it in the 'for sale'section.
there are plenty of us nuts out there that might want
