hello:
assuming you wanted to swap out the engine /transmission on a 55-66 series truck
to a good quality 350/350 setup what type of donor vehicles should i be looking for? (year-make-model)

if you were looking to go to a 350 FI engine with the 700r4 trans combo what donor vehicles would i want to target specifically?

You've really kind of answered your own question. You want one with a 350 FI and a 700r4. So a '84 to 90-something Corvette is a probable donor because most had that combination (unless the car had a manual).

With the other rear drive cars many had the 305 instead of the 350, but Camaro and Firebird are possibilities.

Also look at pickups starting in '88 or '89.

I don't recall what year the 700r4 was replaced with the 4l60 but that would determine the newer limit on your search. Except that until the 4l60e came out the two are the same transmission. Do you really want a 700r4 or do you want an automatic with overdrive?

What FI are you looking for? That would narrow your search a bit. Pickups never had TPI and Corvettes never had TBI unless you count the '84 crossfire system.

IF (big if there) I recall correctly, the 350 with a 700r4 combo was common in the 90's Chevy Astro vans

I pulled my 350/700R4 combo out of a 91 Chevy Caprice. I chose the pre 92 so that I did not get a fully electronic controlled transmission. Mine is not exactly put together as you will see if you peruse my pics.

I'm currently "disecting" a stock '89 caprice.It's got a TBI 305 with I believe a 2004r transmission.If you want I can get you some measurements or pics of the mounts if it would help give you an idea of how stuff would fit.
