Can someone help me understand what the purpose of the springs at the rear of the cab are? As much as I seem to jiggle around (trying to talk on the phone is almost impossible on a less than perfect road due to my voice quivering) I'm thinking of going to a solid mount but would like to know what their purpose is before I just throw them out.

Im sure those mounts are like air ride suspension, but with out the air bags. I also have the same thing on my truck.

I was specifically hoping someone could tell me what would happen if I switched from the spring mounts to a solid mount. My concern is things are usually done for a reason and I'm afraid the springs are there because the frame flexes so much that a solid mount would result in the bolts tearing holes in the cab sheet metal.

Found one of the old manuals that talks about the rear springs being there for the reason I suspected - the cab sheet metal will rack or "oil can" due to frame flex. Can't remember who it was but someone had pictures of their frame work and saw they were adding lots of stiffening braces and boxing the frame channels- in this case going to a direct mount is probably fine.
