For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 5 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 5 | I am trying to get antique plates and the vehicle has to be stock appearing. I took off my aftermarket rims and put the stock black steel wheels back on and took photos as requested. It was rejected as they want to see a picture with the original wheel covers. Were wheel covers an option as I do not have any caps? I need to find somewhere that it states you could order a stripped down 66 with just the steel wheels? any help from anybody? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 | Chrome or painted dog dish hub caps were an option on the '66 Chevy 2wd trucks and not found on the 4x4 trucks. The caps in the eBay listing are not factory wheel covers for a '66 Chevy truck. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 96 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 96 | Where does the law say that the vehicle has to have hubcaps, and how would they know if they came with them or not ? These guys are getting a little bit carried away. Big Brother is really watching you in PA.....Kieth

My buddy has antique tags on his '51 3100-w/a Corvette rear, mustang II front end, Tbird rack, bumper about 3" from the ground, Tuned port 350, power windows, bucket seats, etc in seafoam green primer w/IROC wheels. It all depends on who you talk to at the DMV & what mood they are in at the time. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 5 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 5 | Thanks for all the input so far. I might try to upload a before and after picture of the truck later today. Chris | | | | | Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 51 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 51 | Wow. I got Historic plates here in AZ just by asking for them, I think here they just go off of the age of the vehicle. (I saw a mid-80s Mustang with them once!)
Antique insurance, on the other hand, you need to work a little to get. I'm still waiting to put my bed in before I get mine appraised in order to get that. I think there are also restrictions on how much you drive it and whatnot.
Good luck Chris. There is one place that you have not looked, and it is there - only there - that you shall find the master. | | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 47 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2009 Posts: 47 | In ontario canada its no problem getting historic plates. My truck is hot rodded and I got the plates no problem. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 44 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 44 | It is the same here in Mississippi, our antique tags are given out based on the age of the vehicle. Any vehicle over 25 years of age qualifies for an antique tag. Don't really see where it matters if the vehicle is a "beater" or is in pristine condition... | | | | | Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 43 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 43 | same in alabama, we have vintage tags and antique tags. our streetrodders run vintage. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 109 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2010 Posts: 109 | Nevada has classic, hot rod even horseless carriage plates. Don't really see where it matters if the vehicle is a "beater" or is in pristine condition... yep, & good for the life of the vehicle...i'm originally from northeast MS...in FL you have to renew the antique tags (i lived there) like regular plates...my truck is still in MS at my dad's place so i haven't had to tag it here in SC...btw, i moved here from Brandon | | | | | Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 426 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 426 | NC is far easier. Vehicle just has to be 35 years or older. No stipulations on anything else or factory equipment. Best part is not having to get state inspections due to being over 35 years old.
