Ive got a stock 1964 1/2ton with a 283. I was wondering what year 350's i can buy that would be a direct bolt in without having to buy new motor mounts, and that my stock 4spd transmission can handle.

Same question. I have a 66 GMC Suburban with the 305 V6.

Jon_S: With that V6 you will need to swap out the engine perches as well. Get a set of V8 engine perches and then the same post-58 SB/BB rules will apply for the most part.

Jon_S you will also need a differant bellhouse as the one for a v6 is only for a v6.I presume you have a standered trans. If it is a auto trans I think you can get an adaptor.

Several people have the transmission crossmember which is the same for the tail mount manual trans and the auto trans, they are like 100-120 new, but could probably get from a junkyard for 1/2 that

Thanks. Just thinking about it for now.
Do you mean the perch that is welded to the frame? If I have to have welding done then there are many anvenues to go.

I know almost nothing about GMC's, but on Chevy's the engine perch just bolts on. So, I don't know.

the 230-250-283 eng perches are all the same and they bolt in. the 292 i6 perch is different on the pass side so you do not want that. you would require the chev bellhousing and that will mount to that crossmember. you do not need a rear trans mount unless you are going for an a/trans in which case you remove the crossmember which goes under the bellhousing and install a rear trans crossmember. some guys want good money for those p/glide rear crossmembers. there are others that you can use though for a lot less
