Is there a way to test it? Can I use the distributor cap off of a 235 on this 216 (I have the cap off a 235 that was recently restored so it should be good) I’m just wondering if it would be compatible. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | First off, a distributor doesn't produce spark. It distributes spark. The coil produces spark. Take the coil wire out of the distributor cap and hold it near a grounded part. Turn on the ignition switch. Then take a screwdriver and open and close the points. This should cause a spark from coil wire to ground. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,742 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,742 | There are two different heights of distributor cap, and corresponding differences in the rotor height. Swapping out both parts might work, but a tall cap with a short rotor wouldn't work. It would be impossible to fit a short cap over the tall rotor. Jerry
