the previous owner installed a set of VDO electronic gauges, but with the traditional needle pointer.. the speedo has an odometer and trip odometer.
last week it was kind of flashing and stuff, and today was totally on the brink. the needle on the speedo works fine.. just the electronic odometer read out..
i tried to take the back of it apart to see if there is a battery in there, but couldnt get the dern thing off.
is there a battery inside there that keeps the info when the main battery is unhooked ?
it has worked fine for the past 3 years that i have had it...
just curious how the heck these things keep the info, if there are no batteries inside on the electronic panel.... strange.

Bill | | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 1,082 | oh, ok,, so no real need for a battery backup huh ? i dont knwo anything about how computer chips work.... i tried getting it apart this morning, but man, that threaded on plastic thing that holds it on the panel is really stuck. the only way i will be able to get it apart will be to break it. i put all the wires back on every gauge, and for now its working again. time will tell, but if it messes up again, i will go with a new speedo and other gauges, but they will be mechanical, not electronic.
