I have a 1949 chevy 1 ton that i am fixing and i would like to keep 6 volt. I am at the point where i would like to hook up some tail lights and i was wandering where i could find a set of 6volt tail lights. I was also wandering what size of wire i should run to the lights and if there are any kits to hook signal lights up to trucks that never had them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

whether lights are 6 volt or 12 depends on what voltage bulbs you install, either voltage bulb should be available at your CDN Tire or auto supply .... some 6V light assemblies had sockets that only accept a bulb with one filament, which means adding a separate turn light assembly or getting the dual element sockets to put in your housings - the turn kits are available from most of the vendors [shop Canadian ] and probably even at NAPA .... wire gauges will be shown on the factory wiring diagram in the shop manual or find it here

There are conversion brackets that allow you to run a dual filament bulb (#1154 for 6v) in the stock housing. I believe I have a pair in the garage I don't plan on using again. If you're interested zip me a PM.

Here's a pair of the brackets for a good price. They are listed as 12v but as Bill said the only difference is the bulb used.
