Hopefully I am in the right forum for this. I'm trying to troubleshoot my pulse generator signal to my Dolphin 1 touch electronic speedometer. The 700r4 had the generator in it and is OEM and not aftermarket. The most I ever see is around 20 mph when doing anywhere from 30-50 mph. It does not move at lower speeds at all. I'm hoping someone has a test for it so I can determine it to be at fault or not. Dolphin says their speedometer will work with the stock generator. They suggest checking my ground or lower my frequency settings. I have ran from 150 - 330 and it still reads the same. Anybody have any experience with these? I guess I could remove it and inspect the gear and sensor.

I guess I should have dug deeper before posting. I found the problem when I removed the generator from the trans. Imagine my surprise when I looked into the casing and saw a blue plastic drive gear, Duh! Just a FYI a pulse generator needs a reluctor ring on the tail shaft to work. Another case of buying a supposedly rebuilt trans.The old adage of "If you want it done right do it yourself" still holds true. Oh well I'm on my Merry way with a fix in progress.

Heck and i had a good suggestion. maybe next time. i had trouble with mine and had to go back to the magnetic pickup.

LOL, well it's not fixed yet so be prepared. I ordered a new speed sensor with driven gear all around 80 bucks. My other option was remove tail shaft and housing buy the eight dollar speed sensor rotor ring (reluctor) and press it on and hope the original speed sensor is good. Me being old, short,fat, bald headed and lazy I decided to opt for the easier path. Besides it was close to beer thirty.

Thanks but i think my mechanic went to far, i rides too hard and i am thinking of getting coil overs or air bags to help with the ride.

Be sure that you have the right ppm one each end (pulses per minute) Some electronic gauges like classic instruments they are adjustable. GM produced an 8 and a 16 PPM pulse generator, otherwise, you'll get the wrong reading

Thanks, the new sensor I ordered is 4 PPT which I have a programmable speedometer so we'll see how it goes. Hope it shows up tomorrow!

My speed sensor came in today and I was able to get it calibrated. It's a little bouncing under 10 mph but smooths out once over 10. Is that common?

We used programmable pulse speedometers in our trucks from about 1980 until the late 90's. None of them were accurate below 10 mph, but they were accurate at speeds a little higher than that. They were right on at the speed checks at school zones.

Thanks for the heads up I thought that may be the case since it settled down after 10 mph.
