I installed my parking brake handle spring like it shows in the attached diagram http://www.chevsofthe40s.com/detail/11199/Chevrolet_SPRING_EMERGENCY_HAND_BRAKE_RELEASE_LEVER.html, but the coiled part wants to keep "falling over" to one side or the other and reducing the spring's effectiveness. Am I missing a part or have I installed it incorrectly?

mike, just went out and looked at my '40, which looks the same. The coiled part of the spring definitely sits on one side of the handle, and I think it is original. And it works fine! Good luck!

Mike, I took two pics of the handle on my '37. I believe it to be original. This one is from the passenger side. Never mind the broken glove box. smile This pic is from behind. You can see how it just sits inside the handle. It does move around a bit, but works well enough.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all. Guess I'll just have to live with the the spring moving around.
