I've got a Howard M4F cam w/solid lifters in a 235. What is the int/exh hot valve lash supposed to be? Can't find the cam card.

Also, engine has a random miss during cruise. Goes away during accel, comes back during cruise. Engine is in tune, Holley 390 on Clifford, 56 jets in primary. Fentons. R45 plugs gapped .045" w/pertronix.

Thanks, chip

Sometimes too much initial advance can cause surging at cruise.

I've got about 15* BTDC, 35* at 3000 RPM. Starts as soon as I bump the key. Too much timing? Maybe I've got too much vacuum advance. Any way to limit travel on the 235 vacuum can?

So clearance is .016" for both intake and exhaust? Seems like I remember larger clearances on the card.... maybe for break-in?

thanks, chip

I don't know how to limit the vacuum advance, but you could disconnect it and plug the line to see if the engine smooths out at cruise as a diagnostic measure.
