I’m trying to get some information on swapping out the stock 8 lug hub and brakes on the front end of my 51 3600 with a more modern 5 lug brake system. Not sure what would fit on the original spindle. It doesn’t have to be disc, but would be nice. I’ve seen there is a new disc brake conversion set-up out there, but don’t really want to spend the money on that. Any help would be great, thank you.

The problem with the 3600 trucks is that they have a larger king pin than the 3100's. The bad part is that pretty much all your aftermarket kits are for the 3100's. You may be able to get a machine shop to bore and bush the axles to use other spindles or if you can round up a 3100 axle and swap the whole works, you're in the ballpark. Then you would have a lot more options.

51FarmTruck,the cheapest, and less expensive way, would go on parts wanted, and ask if anyone, has a half ton front axle for sale.I was fortunate enough that I had a half ton axle,at the time,I used the kit for spindles,I used the 1/2 ton axle,on my 3600,it bolts right up to the leaf springs. Thought I would share that with you,Good Luck, and Keep On Trucking!!

I'm going to go look at a 1/2 ton front end set up today after I get off work. If I remember right if I use the 1/2 ton axle/spindles then I can bolt up 49-54 Chevy car backing plate and brakes... Is that correct? Are there any cars that have a disc brake setup that would bolt up to the 1/2 ton spindle?

51FarmTruck,the kit I used was spindles, rotors, and calipers, was sold to me by a friend of mine. He already had all the components,1/2 straight axle and all. There are kits available, might inquire here on the Forum. Cletis,is usually real helpful on here. My kit was a 79Camaro. You will need someone,to align the frontend, for you that are familiar with this type setup. Hope I have been of help to you. I can't remember some of the vendors on here that can help you out.Good Luck,Keep On Trucking!
