I haven't been on in a while since I wasn't able to work on the '57 much, but today I took a big step. I bought a straight six with a four speed tranny out of a '70 model chevrolet pickup. The one that's currently in the '57 is partially seized. I've been working on trying to free it up for months but haven't had much luck so I just went out and found a replacement. Now I've got to finish some little things on the Blazer that I've got to make room for the '57 in the driveway. More updates soon to come.

Good lookin' Gotta Mechanic Comin'. GMC for short.
You know your replacement six won't be a straight across swap.
Is it a 250 or 292. Side mounts are different.

Thanks. It's got lots of "character" and history. I'll have to post more pics, someday.

Yes Herbie is the truck's name. My mother named him when she was a teenager after watching the movie Herbie the Love Bug He's been in the family since '58 when he was bought.

What do I need to get for this engine to bolt in? Does someone make adapters that will fit the mounts on the engine to the mounts on the frame?

I think it's a shame to put the Chevy engine in a GMC. But if that gets it back on the road, OK. The HiPo shop is the forum for engine swaps. You should get help here.

It's just a temporary thing until I can get my original engine fixed.

Sounds like a lot of work for a temporary motor. Save your mulla and busted knuckles. Fix the original.
You can build mounts for the newer six but it doesn't stop there.
You might need a different rad, tranny mount, wiring, fuel lines, gas pedal hookup etc. Probably not worth it. JMHO

Based on the info in this post I've decided to just pull the original and check it out before putting the other engine in. I would rather use the original GMC engine if at all possible just didn't want to do alot of rebuilding. Thanks for all the input.
