Hello,
So what all is involved in replacing the throw out bearing on my clutch? I'm guessing I need to check the bearing and ball, and fork, but I've never worked on trannies before. My shop guide isn't very specific on these parts or process, either.

Thank,
Craig

Obviously you must remove the transmission first. While not a difficult job it is time consuming and heavy. So while you are at it replace the whole clutch assembly. If the throwout bearing is shot you can expect the rest of it to be on the way out.

If it a 4 speed its kinda tough like Cletis says. If its a 3 speed it is a lot easier especially if you are a pretty stout fellow.

Replace the entire clutch or just the T.O. bearing and clutch disc?

For $150 to $180 you can get it all in a kit from any parts store. I got mine from O'Reilly for $150, it even included the plastic alignment shaft for centering the disk. Parts from South America, probably better than China. Don

Removing a SM420 transmission is pretty straight forward in order for you to replace the throw out bearing and yes the clutch. A nice weekend project. You can do it yourself with the help of a tranny jack but it's more fun and smart to have a friend under the truck with you.
